On 12 August 2014, new South African low cost airline FlySafair announced that it would be adding another flight route, between Cape Town and George, to their existing flight schedule.
FlySafair CEO Dave Andrew is quoted as saying that the move to bring lower flights to previously expensive routes is part of the airline’s commitment to keeping flight ticket prices as low as possible.
The airline is taking to the skies on 16 October 2014, with their launch specials including 1-way airfares between Cape Town and George from only R399, flights from Cape Town to Johannesburg from only R499 1-way, and flights between Cape Town and PE from as little as R399.
Similarly to many other leading international low cost carriers, FlySafair charges a base flight cost, with extras such as refreshments, checked in luggage and the pre-booking of seats being charged for additionally.
FlySafair’s entry into the South African airlines spaces has been widely welcomed, and is expected to exert pressure on other airlines to offer cheaper flights along their scheduled flight routes.
